A husband and wife are suing more than 20 companies involved with asbestos products, alleging failure to warn and negligence.
Ronald Janczy filed a lawsuit Jan. 2 in Madison County Circuit Court Illinois against the defendants, alleging failure to exercise due care and caution for the safety of others.
According to the complaint, at various times during Ronald Janczy’s employment career that started in 1966, he was exposed to and inhaled or ingested asbestos fibers emanating from certain products manufactured, sold, distributed or installed by defendants. In May 2017, the suit says, he first became aware that he had developed mesothelioma, an asbestos-induced disease.
Shirley Janczy says she suffered the loss of marital and social relationship with her husband. The plaintiffs allege the defendants intentionally included asbestos fibers in their products when they knew the fibers had toxic, poisonous and highly deleterious effects on human health. The suit says the defendants failed to provide adequate warnings and instructions concerning the dangers of working with or around products containing asbestos fibers.
The Janczys seek trial by jury, compensatory damages of more than $50,000 and all other just relief.
